The villa is now warm, dry, electrified, sewered, watered, pressureized, and bathroomed! It is cleaned and resurfaced. Life is good!
And it has a spectacular view, full of changing leaf colors.
You feel a little light in the wallet, but hey! that comes with the territory. There is no free lunch, right!
Then it hits you like that oncoming train.
You really need a kitchen!
After all you have accomplished, this is almost a no brainer!
Just get the cabinets, appliances, electrical access in the right places, and a contractor. Piece of cake!
So you access the local pasta-wireless, and helpful neighbors provide you with the names of contractors, cabinet shops and you already have an electrician and a plumber!
You hire the appropriate people, and set a start date, place orders, and finalize plans. By now, you are a pro at this process!
Weeks later they appear. The contractor and the electrician inform you that they cannot work together. Years ago, their families had a misunderstanding and have not spoken since.
Assuming this is a cultural situation, you juggle the schedule, and arrange for the electrician to install the necessary power. The cabinets can come later. No intermingling of workmen or family ties should occur.
The electrician appears happy. The contractor leaves in a huff?
Work proceeds, electrical is hot, and then you wait for the cabinet delivery.
and wait,
and wait,
and wait.
You discover that the contractors's extended family owns the cabinet company! Due to the old disagreement, no cabinets will be made.
You search for a new cabinet company, place your order and wait.
Upon their arrival, the contractor installs the cabinets, when he leaves, the electrician connects the power to the kitchen, and completes the rest of the house. The plumber returns and connects the water and the drains. A tile guy installs the floor...after leveling it of course!
Permits and taxes are all in order.
A small amount of money remains in your check book.
And, most important, the view is looking even more spectacular!
All that is left is to wait for the furniture delivery!
As you begin to accept furniture deliveries, and look into the future, you realize a few things.
You have learned a lot in this process!
Not everyone would have had to go through this same experience to purchase and refinish a 1$ villa.
The view is amazing. And it is worth all the work!
As you step outside to flag down yet another delivery truck, one more thing occurs to you,...
you see that you will be needing a gardener!
